Editorial policy

Last updated 21 October 2026

Everything we publish is researched from primary sources, links to those sources, and is dated. When the evidence changes, we update the page and say what changed.

Sources

  • We prefer peer-reviewed studies, regulator publications and lab data over press releases and news reports.
  • We link to the sources behind every claim and every Evidence Dial.
  • Before a page goes live, we check that every source link works.
  • We say when evidence is weak, mixed or missing. "We don't know yet" is a valid answer.

Health claims

We are not a medical service. We describe what the evidence shows about exposure to plastic, and we do not claim health effects the evidence does not support. Nothing on this site is medical advice.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to research and draft many of our guides, working from the primary sources listed at the foot of each page, and to check each claim against the source it cites. AI is not used to invent evidence: a claim with no source behind it doesn't get published.

Swap scores aren't a matter of opinion. They come from our published formula, applied to Evidence Dial ratings that each cite their sources.

Review and sign-off

Every page has an author and a date. When a named human editor has also reviewed a guide, the page says "Reviewed by" and gives their name. Guides without that line say "Not yet reviewed by an editor", and we work through them over time.

Updates and corrections

When we materially change a page, we update the date and, for any error, add an entry to our public corrections log. Anyone can report an error through the contact page.

Independence

Our commercial team has no say over what we cover or how we score it. See our independence rules.
